J.E.B. Stuart Birthplace

Just across the state line from Mount Airy in Ararat, Va., is Laurel Hill Farm, birthplace of Confederate Maj. Gen. James Ewell Brown "Jeb" Stuart. A West Point graduate, Stuart was calvary commander of the Army of North Virginia and died in May 1864 from wounds sustained while defending Richmond. Visitors are welcome seven days a week during daylight hours for self-guided walking tours.
