The Crazy Pig

This downtown hot spot in Elkin was known for decades as Royall's Soda Shoppe, which was famous for its community feel and hot dogs. Today The Crazy Pig honors that past while bringing some new flavors to this small-town joint.

The restaurant smokes pork, brisket and chicken, and serves the meats as platters, sandwiches and some creative concoctions. The most popular item on the menu is the brisket grilled cheese on Texas toast with chipotle aioli. The barbecue "sushi" roll contains pork, slaw with an apple cider vinaigrette and rice; the whole thing is fried and served with homemade yum yum sauce.

Royall's regulars will appreciate nostalgic nods to the old restaurant, including the original wooden booths, black-and-white tile floors, and — most importantly — the Royall's hot dog on the menu, complete with a grilled bun, chili, slaw and onions.

Round out your meal with a craft beer and finish it with a dish of homemade banana pudding.
